Born in 1974, Henrik Simonsen studied art for a year in his native Denmark, before attending Exeter College of Art and Design where he completed his BA (1995-1999) - sharing a studio with fellow artist Antony Micallef - spending a year at Montclaire University in New York (1996). After a six month residency in Venice, Italy, he returned to the UK to live and work, later gaining an MA from Sotheby’s Institute of Art, London. His paintings and print editions have been shown extensively in group and solo exhibitions as well as art fairs, both nationally and internationally.
In 2009 Simonsen was invited to create a unique piece for the permanent collection at the Kruishoutem Museum in Belgium alongside artists such as Carl Andre, Anthony Gormley and Gerard Richter, and since 2012 has been represented by Findlays Galleries - previously Wally Findlay - who continue to present regular solo shows of his work in their Palm Beach and New York City spaces. Simonsen now lives and works in Berlin, Germany.
