‘Untitled’ - A signed, limited edition silkscreen print by British contemporary artist Barry Reigate, published by CCA Galleries. Available individually or as a pair with ‘In for the Money’. Printed at Coriander Studios, published by CCA Galleries.
Reigate’s young dynamic brand of contemporary art combines simplistic linear cartoon motifs in a complex and carefully balanced composition, that whilst full of fun and energy on the surface is disturbing on closer inspection; if one looks closely a cartoon rabbit in the centre of the composition appears to be hanging from a bunch of balloons. Reigate is arguably commenting on the perceived greed of the contemporary art bubble, on art as a money-making commodity. One of the central cartoon characters has its mouth blacked out, perhaps suggesting the stifling of creativity, the gagging of artistic freedom, or the power of art to deceive. Creating such macabre imagery from the visual aesthetic of children powers home a message of the death of innocence.
