'Through the Looking Glass' - A series of 8 silkscreen prints by Sir Peter Blake featuring the adventures of Alice in Wonderland.
The set is comprised of:
Well This is Grand!' said Alice
'It isn't manners for us to begin, you know' said the rose
Just at this moment, somehow or other, they began to run
So Alice picked him up very gently
'And the two knights sat and looked at each other without speaking'
'But isn't it old!' Tweedledum cried
'And to show you I'm not proud, you may shake hands with me!'
'For instance now, now there's the King's messenger'
These works were created during Blake's ruralist phase when he lived near Bath. The artist summed up the Brotherhood of Ruralists, "Simply, our aims are the continuation of a certain kind of English painting; we admire Samuel Palmer, Stanley Spencer, Thomas Hardy, Elgar, cricket, English Landscape, the Pre-Raphaelites, etc… Our aims are to paint about love, beauty, joy, sentiment and magic. We still believe in painting with oil paint on canvas, putting the picture in the frame and hopefully, that someone will like it, buy it and hang it on their wall to enjoy it."
This series epitomoses Blake's romanticism and nostalgia.
Please note the dimensions are on average of all 8 prints.
