'A Walk Along Aldeburgh Beach' - A signed, limited edition 24 colour silkscreen print with glazes, embossing and metallic ink by pop artist Sir Peter Blake. Printed at Coriander Studios, published by CCA Galleries.
Inspired by the famous beach at Aldeburgh in Suffolk and created to celebrate the first Arts Festival held in the town, 'A Walk Along Aldeburgh Beach' showcases Blake's obsessive hoarding instincts as well as his admiration for artists such as Mark Dion and Robert Rauschenberg. He has gathered found objects from the beach into a collage composition, including an old shoe sole, pebbles, driftwood and scrap metal- creating a surface rich in texture. This effect is exacerbated through the use of embossing, helping to re-create the three-dimensional nature of the objects. At the base of the work Blake has written, 'Memories of Place: Aldeburgh. A five minute walk along the beach on a bitterly cold winter morning.'
Aldeburgh beach has proved inspirational for many artists, including the great composer Benjamin Britten- to whom Maggi Hambling's sculpture 'Scallop' on the beach is dedicated.
