Antonia Hazlewood
Brighton-based artist Antonia Hazlewood creates immersive abstract
works that explore movement, consciousness and the hidden rhythms that
shape both nature and human experience. In this latest piece, Hazlewood
responds to the concept of the butterfly effect - the idea that the
smallest initial action can unfold into vast, unpredictable consequences
over time.
Built through an intuitive process of layered mark making, the
composition expands outward in waves of energy, texture and motion. What
begins as a single gesture gradually develops into a dense and shifting
vortex, echoing the patterns found throughout the natural world - from
the unfurling growth of plants to fractals, currents and the invisible
structures that govern space and time.
The circular format plays an important symbolic role within the work,
referencing the Tao, or “The Way” - an eastern philosophy centered
around flow, impermanence and the ever-changing movement of the
universe. Rather than controlling the outcome, Hazlewood allows the
painting to evolve instinctively, responding to each layer as it
emerges. The result is a piece that feels simultaneously meditative and
explosive: a visualization of energy gathering, dispersing and reforming
in endless motion.
Rich in atmosphere and movement, the work invites viewers into a
contemplative space where chaos and harmony exist together, reflecting
the fragile interconnectedness of both nature and human experience.
