Blake’s lifelong hoarding mania comes to the fore in this silkscreen of a selection of matchboxes he has collected over the years. Turning this collection into a piece of fine art harks back to the core of Blake’s pop art principles: that outsider art, folk art, commercial art and everyday objects should be viewed with a fresh perspective; should be viewed as valuable and beautiful. Here Blake has gathered a group of vintage matchboxes from around the world (including examples from France, Canada, America, El Salvador, Russia, Portugal, Sweden, the Czech Republic, China and India) creating a composition of surprising visual diversity that evokes a by-gone era.
