'Matchboxes II' features more of Blake's collection of rare, antique, novelty and international matchboxes. This time the matchboxes are presented on a warm red background, complementing the blue used in the earlier work. Turning this collection into a piece of fine art harks back to the key tenets of Pop art: that everyday objects should be viewed with a fresh perspective; as valuable and beautiful. Here Blake creates a composition of surprising visual diversity and that evokes a by-gone era.

"I collected a few matchboxes initially and then at a fair I bought a book of the covers. On that same day there was a man who had a great big suitcase full of them and he said I could have the lot for 10 quid, so I bought an instant collection of a thousand matchboxes. The matchboxes series is from that. They are arranged in 10 rows of 10, so they look like a kind of weaving. A lot of them are Swedish, but there are also Chinese and Japanese matchboxes.
