‘Sleeping Beauty (Kate with Pines)’- A signed, limited edition silkscreen print by American artist Edy Ferguson. Printed at Coriander Studio, published by CCA Galleries.

‘Sleeping Beauty (Kate with Pines)’ combines a photograph of Kate Moss with imagery from Ferguson's painting of a pine forest, a photographic detail of a pink dress, and a garland of jewels together in an abstract collage composition.

Ferguson creates silkscreen prints from an original collage, seeing print as a means of “accentuat[ing] the energy and the life of the collage” and making the overall image more fluid. With an interest in the photographic image and pure abstraction, the artist enjoys combining the different media to echo the juxtapositions of the everyday world; “I combine two different images to tell a third story”.

“I am deeply interested in how art can enter in the collective appreciation of people as a mass. That's really the only art that matters. I want to explore the fact that very famous people become so embedded in our collective consciousness that they become archetypes; they take on a mythic reality and become an emblem for their times. This has a very classical element to it; they become tragic heroes and heroines living out their tragedy in public, like a Greek God or Goddess. These icons create culture and modern narratives, they influence our dreams and desires- for art, beauty, a perfect world. These are real people, but they are no longer just themselves, they have transcended into our common sensibility.” - Edy Ferguson
