‘In for the Money’ - A signed, limited edition silkscreen print with glazes by British contemporary artist Barry Reigate, jointly published by CCA Galleries and Saatchi Gallery. Available individually or as a pair with ‘Untitled’. Printed at Coriander Studios, published by CCA Galleries.
‘In for the Money’ was made to accompany the Saatchi Gallery’s exhibition ‘Newspeak: British Art Now’ 2010. The image was built up from many informal sketches and other sources such as footprints, scuffs, marks and pot stains on paper- all combined into one composition like a form of collage. The image is childlike (a cartoon) and the character is drawn from various images found from the internet and magazines, then re-drawn to become Reigate’s own. The accidental-looking black smudge hides a darker reality: money- a taboo subject in relation to an artist’s practice. The title thus embraces the base subject matter of an underlying secret and at times sinister objective, of an artist’s intentions. ‘In for the Money’ is playful yet sinister, implying a darker undertone in regards to art and commerce.
Please note the print is subject to availability and prices may change.
