'Splash of Colours' - A rare, limited edition silkscreen print by Patrick Hughes.
Patrick Hughes' fascination with rainbows during the 70s/80s was expressed itself through the absurd and surreal. In 'Splash of Colours' we see a rainbow taking a dive from a diving board into a swimming pool, as if about to go for a refreshing swim.
Rainbows are key to Hughes' exploration of visual paradox, viewing it as a temporary object and a sign for a rare and passing event. In his artwork Hughes makes the phenomenon permanent, trapping it and making it cast a shadow. “I continually contradicted it. I saw the irony in the pinning down of this butterfly” - Patrick Hughes.
